Be a Beta Tester, Sort Of

Legend of Grimrock compatibility testAlmost Human, developer of the first-person dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock, needs help figuring out if their indie game will work on your rig.

To that end, they have released a compatibility build. The test does not involve any gameplay. Rather, it is a build code.

Legend of Grimrock is, little by little, getting closer to completion but we are starting to have some serious night terrors about the game not running properly on the computers it should run on! But now you have the opportunity to help us sleep better! We’ve made a test build that you can download, install and run (and then later on uninstall) to see if the game starts and take a look if everything looks normal. Just to be clear, there’s no gameplay of any kind in the build, unless you are exceptionally easily amused, and probably everything works just like it should work…

Testers download the code, install it, make sure it runs, and then uninstall it. If the game does not work on your PC, you are asked to email Almost Human and describe the problem.

While some may be disappointed at the lack of gameplay in this beta test, this is an important opportunity for gamers to support an indie developer by helping it broaden its audience. The unfortunate aspect of PC gaming is compatibility, and usually, the smaller the studio, the harder it is to make sure nearly anyone can play the game.

More information on this test can be found at the Legend of Grimrock official website, with screens and more game information.
